Vol. 424 No. 1

Written Answers. - Unpaid Court Fines.

Charles Flanagan

Question:

92 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Justice the amount outstanding to the Exchequer in unpaid court fines; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Court fines become due as soon as they are imposed but they are not reckoned as being outstanding or in arrears until the time allowed for payment has expired. At 31 December 1991, the estimated value of the fines for which the time for payment had expired was £6.43 million.
