Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Appointments.

Jim Higgins

Question:

564 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education if she proposed to appoint an additional remedial teacher, a school secretary and a home liaison officer for Scoil Chroí Íosa, Ballina, County Mayo.

I am currently examining the scope for deployment of additional teaching resources to children with special educational needs.

The question of remedial teaching and home school liaison posts will form a key element in this consideration.

Under the terms of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress a phased programme of financial assistance by way of a supplementary grant for the provision of caretaking and clerical services in national schools has been introduced from 1 September 1992.

The initial phase of the programme has targeted schools with enrolments of 500 pupils or over which have not had caretaking and-or clerical assistance already.
