Vol. 449 No. 1

Written Answers. - Shrule Water Scheme, County Mayo.

Michael Ring

Question:

103 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment the present position in relation to an application for the Shrule water scheme, County Mayo; if he will make funding available for this scheme after the budget; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3050/95]

The Lough Mask Regional Water Supply Scheme is one of the major water supply projects being assisted by the Cohesion Fund. The Ballinrobe to Claremorris extension is now under construction at an estimated cost of some £15 million and is due for completion in 1996.

Planning of further extensions to the scheme, including the Kilmaine/Shrule extension at an estimated cost of £3.5 million, is being advanced. However, having regard to the existing high level of commitments in respect of the Lough Mask scheme and water services projects generally, I cannot at present indicate when it may be possible to bring the Shrule extension to construction.
