Vol. 456 No. 1

Written Answers. - Special Education Facilities.

Michael Creed

Question:

149 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education the number of children within a 15 mile radius of the Macroom area being transported to special education facilities in Cork city; and if she will investigate the necessity to establish a special education facility in Macroom in view of the large numbers involved. [13591/95]

I understand 18 pupils from the Macroom area are currently being transported to special education facilities in Cork city. A further two applications for a similar service are currently being considered by my Department.

I have requested my Department's primary inspectorate to investigate and report on whether there is a need to establish a special education facility in Macroom. This report will be considered by my Department when received.
