Vol. 456 No. 4

Written Answers. - University Hospital, Cork.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Question:

46 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the current difficulties in the maternity gynaecological department of University College Hospital, Cork; the steps, if any, he proposes to take to resolve the difficulties; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13980/95]

Limerick East): I am aware of the difficulties in Cork city regarding maternity and neo-natal services and for some time the Department has had ongoing consultations with the agencies concerned on this matter. Earlier this year, I requested that these agencies enter into round table consultations to agree on a set of proposals to resolve the difficulties.

I await the outcome of these consultations which I understand are nearing completion. On receipt of these proposals I will then be in a position to proceed with the necessary steps for the development of the maternity and neo-natal services in Cork.
