Vol. 460 No. 6

Written Answers. - Forfeiture of Bank Guarantees.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Question:

68 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry in relation to the Government's decision of 17 October 1995, in respect of a group of beef processing companies, if this decision to forfeit some of the bank guarantees in respect of export refunds and to release other guarantees has been implemented; and if he will give figures in respect of the final outcome. [1832/96]

The Government decision is in the course of being implemented. Since the time of that decision, processing of the detailed work on individual guarantees being held has been undertaken by my Department in consultation with the EU Commission. When this work is concluded the final forfeiture procedures will be put in train. Accordingly, it is not possible to provide any figures on the final outcome until all the work involved has been finalised.
