Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sinn Féin Response.

Mary Harney

Question:

14 Miss Harney asked the Taoiseach if he will report on the response by Sinn Féin to the formal questions put to it by his Department in the wake of the murder of Garda Gerry McCabe. [15823/96]

The position on this matter remains as set out in reply to parliamentary questions on 25 June. I said on that occasion that the two questions posed to Sinn Féin by the Government on 18 June flow directly from the Mitchell Six Principles and that they are questions which Sinn Féin will have to face once it enters the multi-party talks. That party's participation in those talks is conditional on a restoration of the IRA ceasefire and to that end, the Government is keeping open lines of communication with Sinn Féin.
