The Department of the Marine is the owner occupier of extensive sites and buildings at Dún Laoghaire Harbour and the fishery harbour centres. The Department is currently acquiring a small site for the coast and cliff rescue service.
Dún Laoghaire harbour's functional area generally comprises of the east and west piers and the area enclosed by the piers and is determined on the landward side by the railway boundary. The harbour area is composed of many property elements both on-shore and off-shore, comprising a total area of 120 hectares of which 97 hectares is enclosed water space. All of the functional area is currently under use as either, amenity, day to day operational or leasehold. It is not intended to dispose of any buildings or sites within the functional area of Dún Laoghaire Harbour.
Of the coastal units, the Department of the Marine is in the process of acquiring a small site at Toe Head, Union Hall, County Cork. This is for the Irish Marine Emergency Service's coast and cliff rescue service.
