Vol. 470 No. 5

Written Answers. - Sellafield Nuclear Plant.

Robert Molloy

Question:

120 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the occasions on which he raised the Sellafield issue at EU Energy Council meetings. [19591/96]

Nuclear safety matters are not dealt with specifically at the EU Energy Council. As the Deputy is no doubt aware, matters relating to nuclear safety are generally dealt with at Environment, General Affairs and Research Councils.

My views, and those of the Government, on nuclear safety and on Sellafield in particular are well known throughout the EU. Through all the appropriate fora I continue to press for the highest safety standards in this area.
