Question:

127 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for the Environment when a decision will be made on the upgrading of the Gurteen sewerage scheme, County Sligo; the number of such schemes which were submitted by Sligo County Council to his Department; the number of schemes which remain outstanding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19688/96]

Under the 1996 small schemes programme, each county council was invited to submit up to two suitable proposals for financing in the current year. Sligo County Council submitted two proposals, Easkey sewerage scheme costing £100,000 and Ballinafad sewerage scheme costing £100,000, both of which were approved. The county council subsequently advised that the Gurteen scheme required upgrading at a cost of £60,000.

My Department wrote to each county council on 27 September 1996 requesting small scheme proposals for financing in 1997. It is a matter for Sligo Councy Council to decide whether to submit the Gurteen scheme in this context.

128 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for the Environment when his Department will approve the final plans submitted for the upgrading of the Doomore/Corsallagh group water scheme in County Sligo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19689/96]

The group's plans have been examined and are technically in order. The scheme will be considered for approval in the context of the finances available for group schemes in 1997.
