The total amount paid out to date under the various 1996 headage and premia schemes is almost £684 million. The amounts paid and percentages paid under each of these schemes is outlined in the following table. It should be noted that not all applicants ultimately qualify for payment. There are various reasons why payments are held up or unpaid under the schemes such as no area aid application submitted, error on area aid application, late application, no quota, penalties, insufficient forage area (under the headage schemes) etc.
Statistics in the format requested are not available but the numbers of area aid applications with problems which are resulting in payment delays are outlined on a county by county basis in the following table. These figures include farmers who have applied for Arable Aid only as well as those who have submitted area aid applications in respect of forage only or in respect of forage and arable land.
