Vol. 485 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Michael Ring

Question:

184 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science when school transport will be provided for 18 pupils attending a school (details supplied) in County Mayo. [23532/97]

As a rule primary school transport routes are planned so that no eligible child will have more than 1.5 miles to travel to a pick-up point. Pupils from the area referred to by the Deputy are availing of school transport to the school in question. These pupils live between 0.1 and 0.8 miles from the present pick-up point, and enjoy a service which is considered to be reasonable in the context of the overall operation of the school transport scheme. In the circumstances, I regret that the present arrangement is the most that can be offered.
