Vol. 487 No. 5

Written Answers - Amsterdam Treaty.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

25 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the steps, if any, which are being taken to circulate copies and summaries of the White Paper on the Amsterdam Treaty; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4289/98]

I launched the Government's White Paper on the Treaty of Amsterdam on 26 Janaury last. Copies were circulated to all members of the Dáil and the Seanad at that time and arrangemets were also made for copies of the White Paper to be sent to all public libraries in the State and to all third level institutions. Members of the public who wish to purchase their own copy of the White Paper may do so from the usual outlet, the Government Publications Sales Office on Molesworth Street, which also provides a mail order service. This information was recently advertised in national newspapers.

A summary of the White Paper, which summarises and explains the main features of the treaty, has also been produced and is available free of charge on request from the Department of Foreign Affairs. Separate summaries have been produced in both English and Irish. Advertisements to this effect were placed in national newspapers and a coupon was provided to facilitate requests.

The White Paper on the Treaty of Amsterdam and the summaries in Irish and English have been added to the Department of Foreign Affairs' web site on the Internet.
