Vol. 488 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Building Projects.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

95 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide the necessary funding to the North-Eastern Health Board to provide an ambulance base and mortuary facilities in the Monaghan town area, which in turn would release the necessary space for car parking at Monaghan General Hospital if these facilities were removed to another site for example St. Davnet's complex. [5676/98]

The North-Eastern Health Board is in the process of preparing a development and control plan for Cavan/Monaghan hospital including the Monaghan site. The board is examining the scope for providing an ambulance base and a mortuary, with space for car parking. The proposal will also include a high quality day service facility at the Monaghan site of the Cavan/Monaghan Hospital. When submitted, these proposals will be considered by my Department in the context of the board's priorities for acute hospital services and the moneys available for development purposes.
