Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Housing Aid for the Elderly.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

291 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will examine the case of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin to determine whether she is entitled to assistance under the new £3.5 million grants for essential repairs to houses occupied by elderly people living on their own; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7147/98]

The scheme of special housing aid for the elderly, to which this case relates, is administered, under the aegis of my Department, by a task force representative of Government Departments, local authorities and other statutory and voluntary bodies. Decisions to grant assistance in individual cases are the responsibility of the health boards who operate the scheme at local level and, accordingly, my Department would not have information on a particular case.
