Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Immigration Regulations.

Michael Ring

Question:

339 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform whether an Estonian national can enter Ireland on 1 April 1998 to stay with an Irish family for a holiday in view of the fact that she was previously refused entry to work by immigration officials; and if a definite answer can be provided to avoid further distress. [6951/98]

Persons seeking entry to the State are subject to certain statutory provisions. Immigration officers at ports of entry acting in accordance with powers given to them under the Aliens Act, 1935, may refuse leave to land to non-nationals who do not satisfy the conditions set out in these provisions. It is not possible, therefore, to give prior guarantees of entry to the State where the person is required to present themselves to an immigration officer to seek leave to land.
