Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Schools Designated for Tax Relief.

John Bruton

Question:

427 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will list the schools which will qualify for tax relief under section 17 of the Finance Bill, 1998 on donations of gifts up to £10,000; the total number of pupils in these schools; and the proportion that this represents of all pupils in schools in the State. [7327/98]

At primary level, 435 schools stand to be designated under the provisions of section 13 of the Finance Bill, 1998. These schools have around 82,000 pupils which represent approximately 18 per cent of the total primary cohort.

At post-primary level, 210 schools stand to be designated. These schools have around 109,500 pupils which represent approximately 30 per cent of the total post-primary cohort.

I am arranging for this information to be forwarded to the Deputy.
