Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Work Permits.

Seán Haughey

Question:

152 Mr. Haughey asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the procedures involved to enable a Slovakian national (details supplied) continue to live and commence work here in view of the fact that her visa expired on 15 March 1998, having entered the country on 15 February 1998; to which Department should she make an initial application in view of the fact that she has a definite offer of a job as a nurse and is registered with the Irish Nursing Board; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8784/98]

Matters relating to immigration are the responsibility of the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform. My Department only becomes involved when an application for a work permit to employ a non-EEA (European Economic Area) national is submitted by a company. To date no application for a work permit has been received on behalf of the person concerned.
