Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Recruitment.

Michael Creed

Question:

240 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Defence if he will review the age limit for Army recruitment; and if he will make exceptions for serving members of the FCA who wish to join the Army. [8880/98]

The current age requirement for recruitment to the Permanent Defence Force is 17 to 22 years of age except for serving members of the FCA in respect of whom the upper age limit has recently been increased from 23 years to 24 years of age. Given the policy of reducing the age profile of the Defence Forces in line with the Defence Forces Review Implementation Plan, I do not propose to extend these upper age limits.
