The concept of equal opportunities for men and women is one which I favour very much and in relation to which, both myself and my Department have a very good track record. That said it is a concept which does not always lend itself to practical application. In this particular case the nature of the task to be undertaken by the Food Industry Development Group dictated that its membership comprise senior management personnel from a representative number of food companies, relevant State agencies and industry and consumer organisations.
