Vol. 489 No. 7

Written Answers. - Army Uniforms.

Ivor Callely

Question:

25 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence if his attention has been drawn to the concerns expressed by members of the armed forces on the quality of cloth in their uniforms; the issues brought to his attention in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9256/98]

I am not aware of any concerns expressed by members of the Defence Forces regarding the quality of cloth used in the manufacture of uniforms. Materials specified for use in the manufacture of items of uniform are of a high quality. The quality and type of all items of uniform procured for the Defence Forces are closely monitored by the military authorities to ensure suitability for use and comfort to the wearer. Any adjustments to quality, pattern or materials considered to be necessary in the light of usage and the experience of military personnel are introduced as required.
