Vol. 490 No. 3

Written Answers. - Single Parent Allowance.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

60 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Finance if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 372 of 21 April 1998, he will provide details of the number of persons in receipt of single parent allowance in the tax year 1998-9, separate from those in receipt of widowed parent allowance. [10208/98]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the number of individuals on tax records who will qualify for the single parent allowance for the income tax year 1998-99 is estimated to be of the order of 22,400. This figure is provisional and is likely to be revised on an ongoing basis.
