Vol. 490 No. 6

Written Answers. - Cultural Policies.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

79 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will make a statement on the Government's position at the international governmental conference in Stockholm from 30 March 1998 to 2 April 1998; and the Government's response to the action plan adopted. [10877/98]

I am examining the policy objectives that relate to areas of my Department's responsibilities set out in the draft action plan on cultural policies for development adopted recently at the Intergovernmental Conference on Cultural Policies for Development and recommended to member states of the United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organisation.

From a preliminary examination many of these recommendations embrace concepts and ideals that already inform my thinking in relation to my policies in the fields of culture, heritage and audiovisual matters.
