The preparation by consultants Brady Shipman Martin of the Main Report and Discussion Document on "Coastal Zone Management — a draft Policy for Ireland", which were published on 2 December, 1997, for public comment and were tabled in Dáil and Seanad Éireann on that day (PN 4695), followed an extensive review of the literature on the subject and extensive consultations by them with interested parties over the period 1995 to 1997. As indicated on page 3 of and in Appendix 4 to the main report, submissions were invited and received from many organisations, statutory and other, and from the general public, and direct detailed consultations were held by the consultants with some 33 organisations listed.
Over 100 submissions were received in response to the invitation issued to the public to comment on the main report and discussion document and the well attended and lively one day Public Consultation Seminar held on 30 March 1998, formally brought that lengthy phase of public consultation to a close.
