Vol. 492 No. 7

Written Answers. - Summer Jobs Scheme.

Michael Ring

Question:

272 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo was refused the student summer jobs scheme; the way in which his assessment was calculated and if his means were over the limit; and, if so, the amount by which he is over the guideline limit. [15131/98]

In order to qualify for participation in the students' summer jobs scheme, students must satisfy a means test which is broadly similar to that currently applying to applicants for unemployment assistance. The means are calculated in the same way as for an applicant for unemployment assistance. The person concerned does not qualify as his weekly means are some £10 over the qualifying limit of £65.
