Vol. 493 No. 5

Written Answers. - Violence Against Women.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

159 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will outline, on a county by county basis, the funding given to groups working to reduce the levels of violence against women. [16611/98]

My Department provides funding to the eight health boards to provide support services to women who are victims of violence. The health boards fund the refuges and rape crisis centres and other voluntary groups in their respective areas. The total amount allocated in 1997 by my Department was £2.7 million approximately The county by county breakdown requested by the Deputy is not available in my Department. I have asked the health boards to provide this information which I will pass on to the Deputy as soon as it is to hand.
