335 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the overall cost of the consultancy project he has initiated in respect of the proposal to impose a taxation on plastic bags; the earliest date at which he feels he will be in a position to implement any positive proposals arising from the consultancy report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department is in the process of finalising a consultancy appointment in regard to the proposed study on plastic bags and I will notify the Deputy of the costs when contractual arrangements are completed. The study will include the identification and evaluation of possible measures to minimise the use of such bags, and is scheduled for completion in December 1998. I will give immediate consideration to the findings and recommendations of the consultant's report.
