Vol. 495 No. 1

Written Answers. - Veterinery Inspection Fees.

Brendan Smith

Question:

189 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the progress, if any, made in relation to the need to waive the veterinary inspection fee on pigs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19369/98]

The veterinary inspection fee for pigs is provided for under EU legislation and any adjustment to it must therefore be done with EU Commission approval. I have written to the Commission seeking approval to adjust the fee in line with the cyclical movement in pig prices.

My Department has been pressing the Commission for an early reply.
