Vol. 495 No. 1

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants

Liz McManus

Question:

392 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education and Science if a person (details supplied) in County Wicklow can avail of a third level grant to attend college in England; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19238/98]

In 1996 the third level student support schemes were extended, subject to certain exceptions, to include courses of not less than two years' duration pursued in a university or third level institution which is maintained or assisted by recurrent grants from public funds in another EU member state.

My Department has made inquiries in this case and I understand that the college being attended by the student in question is a privately funded college and, accordingly, does not come within the scope of the scheme.
