Vol. 495 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Funding.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

111 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when seven local authorities will receive funding in 1998 and 1999 under the one-stop shop programme; the plans, if any, he has to fund the other 23 authorities which made applications to his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19269/98]

I have recently been in correspondence with the seven authorities to whom I have made allocations in the first tranche of funding for one-stop shops projects and I have informed them of their phased allocations for the years 1998, 1999 and 2000. Funding for 1998 will be made before the end of the year.

These allocations — which partly fund the projects were made on the basis of the state of preparedness of the proposals and particularly on the extent to which public services, other than local authority services, had been committed to the project. As the other local authorities who have submitted proposals develop them further, they will be considered for funding, subject to available resources.
