Vol. 500 No. 3

Written Answers. - Waste Recycling.

Joe Higgins

Question:

88 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West): asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the amount and type of waste recycled by a company (details supplied) in each county; and the destination of the collected materials. [3930/99]

The detailed information requested is not available in my Department. It is a condition of the approval granted to Repak Limited under article 15 of the Waste Management (Packaging) Regulations, 1997, that the company submits an annual report not later than 31 March of each year in relation to its activities in the preceding calender year. Repak Limited commenced operations in July 1997. The company reported that in the period to 31 December 1997, member companies nationally arranged for the recovery of 30,000 tonnes of packaging waste arising on their own premises, and Kerbside Recycling Dublin and Rehab Recycling Partnership, which receive significant funding from Repak Limited, diverted some 21,000 tonnes of packaging waste from the domestic waste stream for recovery. I await the company's annual report for 1998.

I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 12, 16 and 55 of 28 January 1999, which outlines the company's proposals for the development of its operations during 1999.
