Vol. 501 No. 3

Written Answers. - Office of the Ombudsman.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

206 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Finance the number of queries the Ombudsman's office has dealt with over the past three years. [5756/99]

The following table contains details of the numbers of complaints received and finalised by the Office of the Ombudsman in the last three years for which figures have been published. The corresponding figures for 1998 will become available when the Ombudsman presents his annual report for that year in mid-March.

The Office of the Ombudsman also deals with a large number of general inquiries from members of the public. I understand that systems for recording such inquiries have only recently been installed. According to the information collected to date on this subject, the average number of inquiries dealt with by the Office of the Ombudsman is in the region of approximately 500 per month.
