Vol. 501 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sports Funding.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

158 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will consider a request from the Irish Real Tennis Association for the re-instatement of the only real tennis court located at Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 4, in view of the fact that it was presented to the State in 1939 and of its attraction for both tourism and sport; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6342/99]

An application for funding under the sports capital programme has been received from the Irish Real Tennis Association in respect of its proposals for restoration work on property located at Earlsfort Terrace.

The property in question is in the ownership of the Office of Public Works who have alternative proposals for the site. I understand from my colleague, the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, Deputy de Valera, who has overall responsibility for this project, that the works proposed for this site are currently the subject of a planning appeal to An Bord Pleanála.
