Written Answers. - Tax Allowances.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

70 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the correct tax free allowance for persons (details supplied) in County Kildare, both of whom are employed and have a mortgage; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7560/99]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that, according to the information available to the inspector of taxes, the taxpayers' allowances for the current tax year are as follows:

Marriage Allowance

£6,300

PAYE Allowance

£1,600

Expences

£50

Mortgage Interest Relief (estimate £975)

£303

Table S Allowance

£9,566

Total Tax Free Allowances

£17,819

Total allowances allocated to main employment

£12,236

Total allowances allocated to spouse's employment

£5,583

The balance of the taxpayers' income is liable to tax at 46%.
The inspector has issued a tax-free allowance revision form to the taxpayers to enable them to notify the inspector of any adjustment to these allowances that may be necessary.
