Vol. 502 No. 2

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Seán Ryan

Question:

122 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Education and Science the proposals, if any, he has to provide an education for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin diagnosed as autistic and whose parents have made major efforts without success to get him enrolled into a suitable school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7441/99]

I am aware of the case to which the Deputy refers. I can assure the Deputy that I am most anxious that suitable educational provision be made available for this child as soon as possible.

My Department's Inspectorate are currently investigating a suitable educational placement for the child. I am hopeful that the necessary arrangements can be put in place without delay.
