Question:

91 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to the preparation of an accommodation brief for the national school project in Celbridge, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8655/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 90 and 91 together.

As outlined in my response to Question No. 950 on 27 January last, the planning section of my Department is actively considering a long-term accommodation brief for the north Kildare school project primary school in consultation with the local inspector.

The inspector's report has recently been finalised and this report is under examination in planning section at present. A final decision in the matter can be expected shortly.

In relation to the site issue, on 10 January 1999 I announced an initiative whereby the State would offer to purchase the sites for all new national schools. The situation now is that a working party in the Department is assessing the implementation arrangements for the new initiative. When this work is completed, my Department will be in a position to address individual projects such as the north Kildare national school project.
