Vol. 502 No. 6

Written Answers. - Registration of Title.

Michael Ring

Question:

288 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the Land Registry will expedite a registration for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [8902/99]

I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that this dealing refers to an application under section 49, that is, acquisition of title by virtue of long possession, of the Registration of Title Act, 1964, which was lodged on 23 March, 1998. I understand that due to their complicated nature, applications under section 49, which require detailed examination of claims for registration as owners, take some time to process.

I am further informed that the Land Registry issued a query on this dealing to the applicant's solicitor on 27 November 1998 and a reply is awaited. The query raised must be satisfactorily discharged before the matter can proceed.

Accordingly, it is not possible to estimate a completion date for this application at this stage.

However, I can assure the Deputy that the Land Registry will do everything possible to expedite the matter.
