Vol. 504 No. 4

Written Answers. - Child Care Services.

Richard Bruton

Question:

202 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will introduce general planning guidelines to relax the planning conditions in respect of child care premises within a certain scale in order to overcome the crisis that has emerged in this area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11899/99]

My Department is participating in the interdepartmental committee which has recently commenced work on preparing recommendations for Government on a national child care strategy which will address all issues in relation to the provision of child care facilities, including planning considerations. My Department will consider, in the context of any recommendations of the interdepartmental committee, how best to encourage appropriate and consistent planning policies by planning authorities on the provision of child care facilities.
