Vol. 512 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Milk Supplies.

Ivan Yates

Question:

139 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development whether the supply of milk in schools is obliged to be pasteurised; if so, the date from which the current regulations apply; if this applies to the sale of raw milk in all circumstances; the exemptions, if any, in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25616/99]

The placing on the market of raw milk for direct human consumption in that condition has been prohibited since 31 July 1997. The prohibition includes sale of school milk. However, it does not apply in the case of raw milk sold directly on the holding to a consumer by its producer.
