117 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the progress, if any, made with regard to the appointment of a full-time director of the National Library; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2326/00]

Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands (Miss de Valera)

Despite a recent competition organised by the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commission it did not prove possible to fill this post. In these circumstances Mr. B. O'Donoghue has agreed to continue as director for a further period of two years.
