Vol. 515 No. 1

Written Answers. - Foreign Adoptions.

John McGuinness

Question:

160 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the progress, if any, made in relation to an application by persons (details supplied) in County Kilkenny to adopt a child from western Russia; when these persons will be assessed; if an educational visa will issue in order that the child can commence her education while waiting for all other procedures to be completed; and if he will expedite the requests being made by the couple. [5384/00]

I have contacted the chief executive officer of the South Eastern Health Board in relation to this case asking him to investigate the matter and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency. In addition, however, given the delays being experienced in this board area, I have asked my officials to arrange to meet with the board regarding intercountry adoption services as a matter of urgency.
