Vol. 515 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

John Dennehy

Question:

176 Mr. Dennehy asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of persons who have benefited from the local authority shared ownership scheme over recent years; the average mortgage provided; the number who have availed of the option to convert to full mortgages; his views on the general effectiveness of the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5355/00]

Information on the level of activity under the shared ownership scheme is available in my Department's housing statistics bulletins, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. While the final 1999 figures are not yet available, I understand that some 1,400 shared ownership scheme transactions were completed last year compared to 805 in 1998. I do not have information on the average mortgage provided or of the number of people who have converted to full mortgages.
