Vol. 515 No. 2

Written Answers. - Office of Tobacco Control.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

40 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health and Children when the promised office of tobacco control will be established; if he will give details of its role and function; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5503/00]

Funding has been provided to establish the office of tobacco control this year. The primary functions of this office will be to co-ordinate and monitor the implementation of policy and to discharge all executive functions in relation to tobacco control. I am advised that work is under way to secure suitable premises and to recruit appropriate staff.
