Vol. 515 No. 3

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Equipment.

Question:

118 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Defence the steps, if any, he has taken to ensure that firearms used by members of the FCÁ comply with the latest safety standards; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5867/00]

All weapons and ammunition purchased for the Defence Forces are required to comply with the highest international standards, for example those prescribed by the United Nations and NATO. Defence Forces technical personnel undertake acceptance tests on weapons and ammunition prior to delivery and implement strict inspection and maintenance regimes while the equipment is in service.
