Vol. 515 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Michael Ring

Question:

160 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance the position regarding the Ballina Garda station, County Mayo. [5846/00]

The Commissioners of Public Works have been actively seeking a site in Ballina for some time without success to date. They are currently in negotiations for a potentially suitable site but it is too soon to say if these will be successful.

While the preferred option is to purchase a site and build a new station on it, the Commissioners will explore other possibilities if the current negotiations prove unsuccessful.

Ivan Yates

Question:

161 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Finance the proposals, if any, he has to renovate, improve or relocate the Garda barracks at New Ross, County Wexford; and the timetable in this regard. [6143/00]

A site is being sought for a new Garda station in New Ross. It is not possible at this stage to give a timetable for the erection of the new building.

Proposals regarding the renovation of the existing Garda station are under consideration at present and a decision in this regard will be made shortly, having regard to the timescale for constructing a new facility.
