Question:

223 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the proposals, if any, he has to provide funding to complete the Ring Road at Tramore, County Waterford between the top of Tramore Heights and Newtown Hill and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5920/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 222 and 223 together.

The maintenance and improvement of non-national roads in their area, including resurfacing, is a matter for Waterford County Council, to be funded from their own resources, supplemented by grants from the local government fund. Waterford County Council has been allocated a total of £5.605 million in non-national road grants for 2000, an increase of 6% on its 1999 allocation.

The works referred to in the question were not among those prioritised by the county council for financing under the specific improvement grant scheme in 2000.
