My Department has no record of having received correspondence from the organisation in question regarding representation for coarse angling clubs on the regional fisheries boards.
I can confirm that there is representation for coarse angling interests on the regional fisheries boards. The elected members of the regional fisheries boards are elected by classes of electorate specified by order made under the Fisheries Act, 1980. The classes of electorate include the class of a person who is an ordinary member of a fisheries co-operative society and who is registered as a coarse fish angler with that society and who is entitled to vote. In the case of the Shannon board and the northern board the order specifies that two members shall be elected by this class of electorate and in the case of the other five boards the order specifies that one such member shall be elected.
