Vol. 515 No. 3

Written Answers. - Marine Industry Development.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

99 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the level of interaction between his Department and the local authorities in terms of developing a proper inventory of the marine infrastructure along the coast and creating a structured priority list for cultivating fishing, commercial, tourism or other activities, avoiding duplication and achieving balance; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6019/00]

My Department liaises with all relevant local authorities on an ongoing basis on the development needs of marine infrastructure and consults with them on prioritisation of proposals for the development or improvement of facilities having regard for the needs of all users including the catching and aquaculture sectors, marine leisure interests and other local groups. The strategic objective is to ensure that the capital programmes deliver balanced and complementary develop ment reflecting priority needs. Local authority and user input is critical to delivery of that objective.
