Vol. 516 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Inspection.

Dan Neville

Question:

39 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Education and Science the changes, if any, he proposes in the whole school evaluation; and when he will extend the process to all schools. [7268/00]

A total of 35 schools participated in the pilot phase of whole school evaluation. A draft report was prepared which considered the findings of the pilot project, including recommendations and suggestions made by the participating schools and by other partners. This report was circulated to the partners for their consideration. Meetings were then held between the representatives of the various partners and members of the inspectorate of my Department to discuss the draft report. A final report has since been circulated to all schools and to the education partners.

A draft circular on WSE is in preparation at present and will be circulated to the partners for their comments. No decision will be made on the extension of WSE to all schools until these consultations have been completed.
