Vol. 518 No. 2

Written Answers. - Visa Applications

Bernard Allen

Question:

72 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will investigate the reason there has been no response to an application to the Irish Embassy in Beijing in September 1999 by a person (details supplied) in the Peoples Republic of China. [11242/00]

The embassy in Beijing has no record of having received a visa application from the person details of whom have been supplied. I suggest that she use a more reliable way of communicating with the embassy than she has been using.

The Deputy's queries were not made to my Department nor to the embassy. I understand that they were made to the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, to which most applications received by the embassy are referred for decision, but which also has no record of having received any application. Following the queries received, the two Departments tried to trace the application but without success. They are now trying to contact the person's husband with a view to assisting her to make an application.
